Code Vein action-RPG announced, described as ‘Gruelling’

After some teasing, Bandai Namco has revealed Code Vein, a 'gruelling' action-RPG that bears a strong resemblance to the Souls series. Set in the near future, Code Vein will place you in the boots of a vampiric Revenant fighting to survive in a world consumed by the supernatural.

Code Vein action-RPG announced, described as 'Gruelling'
Last week a teaser trailer emerged with the tagline 'Prepare to Dine', sparking much speculation about a potential sequel to FromSoftware's much-loved Bloodborne. Though the announcement of Code Vein reveals that these speculations were off, the emphasis on it being a 'gruelling' experience, as well as the game's obsession with blood, show that Bandai Namco is looking to fill the void that FromSoftware's shift away from the Souls series has created.

Code Vein is action-RPG that allows you to feast on the blood and bodies of its many powerful enemies, enhancing your own powers in the process and giving you access to new abilities called 'Gifts'. Axes, spears, swords, and old school rifles seem to be the weapons of choice, again drawing comparison to Bloodborne. However, the impressive anime aesthetics and interchangeable co-op partners promise to offer something a little different.

Here is the official synopsis from the Bandai Namco website:

"In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it.  Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity’s past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity. Wandering aimlessly in search of blood, the Lost will stop at nothing to satisfy their hunger. Team up and embark on a journey to the ends of hell to unlock your past and escape your living nightmare in CODE VEIN."

Code Vein is set for a 2018 release on 'major consoles', so presumably the PS4 and Xbox One, and maybe the Switch. For screenshots, look below.
