Amidst a lot of strong competition from Western developers, Persona 5 has taken the number one spot at the top of the UK Games chart during the week ending April 8th – its first week of release. The last JRPG to do the same was Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch back in 2013. No small feat considering how many great JRPGs have released since then, especially the much-hyped Final Fantasy XV.
Persona 5's huge success can likely be attributed to the strong but steady following it has gained in the West since Persona 4 Golden was released on the Vita, as well as the universal critical acclaim it has earned in the last week.
Atlus's massive launch win has displaced a number of big titles such as Mass Effect Andromeda, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and the newly-released Lego City Undercover. The top ten list can be found below:
1. Persona 5
2. Ghost Recon: Wildlands
3. Lego Worlds
4. Grand Theft Auto V
