Star Wars Battlefront 2 to Feature Single-Player Campaign

Following the confirmation of a sequel at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program Conference in London last month, DICE Producer Paul Keslin has confirmed in an interview with Eurogamer that next year's sequel to Star Wars Battlefront will indeed include a single-player campaign.

Speaking first and foremost about the game's Rogue One DLC, the publication eventually touched upon fan demand for a campaign, which it describes as "locked in" for the sequel and to which Keslin replied with the following:

"Myself as a Star Wars fan, I want story, I want narrative, I want something I can play that immerses me in that world but gives me something to follow and chase."

Given this and the recent success the studio had with reception on its single-player mode in Battlefield 1, DICE reevaluated its identity and approach to making games. Not wanting to disappoint in that regard, the developer is actually partnering up with Motive Studios to deliver next year's solo content.

"We're partnering up with some folks from Motive – they have their own take on how things are – but we have a very close relationship with them, and we want everything to feel like a coherent experience. We don't want it where single player isn't that great but multiplayer has this great thing and isn't connected."

The interview went on to discuss season pass content and how best to balance it out, as well as scarcity of worlds and iconic battles to explore in the next game due out in 2017, all making for quite the interesting read.

It's unknown as to what this newly announced single-player campaign will focus on, but an approach similar to that found in this year's Battlefield 1 could prove pretty interesting.

EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund admitted that big shooter titles should have a campaign in an interview with Wedbush Securities Analyst Michael Pachter back in May. The original Star Wars Battlefront will be joining EA Access next week.
