The hype train for the most electrifying fighting game franchise of all time is rolling. Since 2011, fans have been begging for a sequel/update to Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. After years of baseless rumors and expectations, a new Marvel Vs. Capcom game is closer than ever to being a reality.
A brief backstory of where these rumors originated is necessary. A reputable NeoGAF user named Ryce posted this on a Fighting Game Thread:
The post was further corroborated by Polygon who reported multiple sources telling them that Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 was indeed a reality.
Rumored to be announced at Capcom Cup this weekend, there's been serious speculation that this new sequel will be without one key group of Marvel characters: The X-Men. Namely Wolverine, Storm, Deadpool, and any other characters that movie studio Fox has the film rights to, including the Fantastic Four.
Author Michael McWhertor writes:
"Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4's roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized — and has full control over — during the past decade."
It's unclear whether this is just conjecture on the author's fault, or part of the sourced rumor.
Whether X-Men characters will be in MvC4, or if the game even exists at all, the truth will be revealed at either at The Game Awards on Thursday, or at the PlayStation Experience keynote/Capcom Cup this Saturday.
