Total War: Warhammer Wood Elves announced

The wait is over, as the Wood Elves have been announced earlier today for release! Residing in the foreboding and mysterious forest of Athel Loren, the Wood Elves are an enigmatic and isolationist race by nature. Many fans have been upset due to their lack of representation in the main-game for so long, given that almost every other race featured in the continent in-lore is present.

Total War: Warhammer Wood Elves announced
Remember a few weeks ago how I called the Wood Elves being announced soon? Because I remember.

Now that I've gotten that bit of gloating out of the way, let's move on. It's been a busy period for Total War: Warhammer and Creative Assembly in general. This news is coming hot on the heels of their announcement of the Bretonnia race pack and their new edition of the game for the coming year as we move farther and farther into that holiday season.

This particular DLC will be coming with everything you'll be needing to conquer the entire Old World and yes, I do mean the entire Old World, because among other things like a faction specific currency and new victory conditions, the Wood Elves will be able to conquer every available settlement regardless of who owns it. Remember, in Total War: Warhammer certain factions can only capture and settle certain regions in an effort to be more lore-friendly.

However, these settlements will have limited building options, turning them into army replenishment stops, recruitment stations (with access to the global recruitment pool but at local recruitment pricing), or as centers to exploit any regional trade resources. Major building chains will need to be built in the regions of Athel Loren itself. Settlements in Athel Loren have 10 building slots, ensuring that you have plenty of room to play around with all of your options. This comes with two new legendary lords and a story campaign revolving around those lords and the Wood Elves' role in the game.

The Wood Elves are the last branch of the Elvish race residing on the continent that the campaign map represents, after having a bit of a falling out with the other two and a whole mess of bloody wars that would take far, far longer to explain than the constraints of this article would allow. The Wood Elves have always been isolationist and reclusive in nature, residing in the great forest Athel Loren, which places them very closely to Bretonnia on the campaign map and the two nations and peoples have a very interesting in-lore relationship. But don't let that stop you from smashing them in-game, however. The Wood Elves seem to our our new glass-cannon faction, looking at the roster provided by the Steam page.

The Wood Elves DLC will be released on Steam December 8th, and is currently 10% off at $17.09.
