Melbourne is the world's most liveable city, a hotspot for video game development, and now, it's also home to a brand new form of virtual reality entertainment in the form of VR Adventure World.
VR Adventure World is a chain of virtual reality arcade centres that cater to the public's growing interest in next generation gaming devices, including the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The first store open to the public recently celebrated its grand opening in Westfield Doncaster, with two more stores to follow in Chadstone and Highpoint. Much like well-known arcade centres Timezone and Playtime, each VR Adventure World store offers the chance to try out a range of different games with one key difference: all the games are in 9D VR, meaning users will feel as if they are fully immersed in the game's environment.
To play a game, users sit in a 9D VR Egg Chair and wear the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. The majority of games are more than just simulations, and require some level of user control through either shooting or directing in-game movement via the headset.
During gameplay, the Egg Chair simulates realistic movements to further enhance the interactivity of the audiovisual input players receive through the headset. A single ride on the Egg Chair lasts between 7-10 minutes and is priced at $14.95, with special discounts available to VR Adventure World members. In addition to Egg Chairs, users will be able to jump into a VR Racing Car and VR Explorer, which offer more immersive gameplay at $24.95 a session.
As a special opening month gift, VR Adventure World is offering $5 off vouchers for all customers.
