Farming is coming to The Sims 4, confirmed by the reveal trailer of the latest expansion pack, Cottage Living. This came after a teaser earlier in the week, which announced a reveal trailer. Farming is a feature that has been requested for The Sims series for years, with players asking for gameplay that includes raising animals such as cows and chickens, as well as expanding on the gardening feature, which has been present in The Sims 4 since the very start. Now it looks like this request has been granted.

As shown in the trailer, Sims can look after cows and chickens, as well as llamas. Other animals include rabbits, birds, and foxes, which can be found in the wild. Wild animals can be befriended, so that they can find gifts for your Sims and help in the garden. Cows can be milked, you can get eggs from chickens, and you can shear wool from llamas. The new Animal Enthusiast trait is great for Sims who love all animals. This new trait comes with benefits, such as being able to change the colour of cow’s milk and llama’s wool.

Whilst gardening has been a gameplay feature in The Sims 4 from the start, it will be expanded on in Cottage Living. Your Sims will be able to grow new crops including watermelons, pumpkins, aubergines, and lettuce. Your Sims can even grow oversized vegetables, which they can take to the local competition to be judged. There will also be a Simple Living Lot Challenge, which will require your Sims to gather fresh ingredients. Not only will you need fresh milk and eggs from your cows and chickens, or fresh veggies from your garden, but you’ll also need to forage for berries and mushrooms. Your Sims can even have their groceries delivered at home from the local grocery shop.

A new world will be introduced, Henford-on-Bagley, a quiet countryside town that includes a pub, grocery shop, garden stall, and a weekly village fair. You’ll get the full authentic countryside living thanks to new objects that allow you to build quaint cottages. Other new objects includes the chicken coop, animal sheds, and a picnic basket. Your Sims can also dress the part with new countryside-themed outfits. Other features includes cross-stitching and the return of the Crumplebottom sisters, Agnes and Agatha.

If you buy The Sims 4: Cottage Living by September 2, you’ll get the Gnome on the Go bonus content, which includes three objects: the Rideable Scenic Commuting Bicycle, “Onward” The Adventurous Gnome, and Bramblewood’s DeLIGHTful Tree.

The Sims 4: Cottage Living expansion pack is now available to pre-order and will be released on July 22 on Origin and Steam for PC and Mac, as well as Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
