is an upcoming first-person survival video game developed by Compulsion Games, currently scheduled for release in June 2016 for Linux, Microsoft Windows, OS X and Xbox One. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 4 and is currently in a pre-alpha state.
The game is set in a dystopian alternate 1960s England, where the face-painted inhabitants of the fictional town of Wellington Wells are kept under control with a drug called Joy. The player takes the role of a "Downer," a person who refrains from taking Joy. The Downers comprise an underground resistance movement that is trying to escape from Wellington Wells. However, the town's citizens do not take kindly to Downers, so players have to act like they are high on Joy in order to blend in. They must scavenge for food and supplies as they try to survive in this procedurally generated world.
We Happy Few was first revealed on February 26, 2015, and publicly debuted at PAX East 2015, allowing attendees to go hands-on with a very early version of the project. On June 4, 2015, Compulsion Games started a campaign on the crowdfunding site, Kickstarter, seeking US$200,000 to fund the development of the game. The campaign ended one month later on July 4, having collected US$266,163 from 7,433 backers.
