Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata confirmed in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu that of the upcoming JRPG's 15 chapters, roughly half will be open world and the other more story-driven and linear.
The purpose of this design decision, Tabata says, is to prevent players from getting tired of the open world. Tightening the game and giving users a taste of traditional Final Fantasy story progression is key, according to him.
Completing only the main story of both halves of the game will take anywhere between 40 and 50 hours.
The title, set to release November 29 this year, is currently 90% finished. It will release simultaneously worldwide for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
