It would appear one more mystery about the Nintendo NX's game library has been resolved. In a round-table conversation, Dragon Quest creator and writer Yuji Horii stated outright that the upcoming Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time would be coming to the NX console.
Horii also noted that there would be a PlayStation 4 version as well as 2D and 3D versions for the Nintendo 3DS released simultaneously. The decision to launch all versions of the game at once was made, according to Horii, because "spoilers will emerge if we release one version earlier."
Reflecting on the challenges that resulted from this decision, Horii said:
"The movement in the 2D of the 3DS version, and the movement in the 3D of the 3DS version and the PlayStation 4 version definitely feels different when it’s in action. However, there are concerns when making several versions at the same time, and to that extent it’s difficult, so we’re making the game to the best of our ability."
Dragon Quest XI is set to release in Japan during the series' 30th anniversary year, which began on May 27th, 2016 and will end on the same date in 2017. At this time, there has been no word on an international release date.
