So one of things my podcast IGN Anime Club has been doing is Anime Watch Party. For those that don't know what that is. It's a weekly podcast that airs on Wednesday. You can either watch it on ign.com, YouTube, or on iTunes. It's basically talks about stuff ranging from anime, manga, collectables, etc. IGN Watch Party is that they watch two episodes of that series and discuss it. When they first started their podcast they had a poll for which anime series we would be watching, and the winner of that poll was Cowboy Bebop. Now I've actually been wanting to get into Cowboy Bebop for a while, but during the time I was actually in the middle of a few other anime shows. So when I started watching this I didn't know what to expect. I only knew a bit from the trailer that Funimation released, and even after seeing that I still didn't know what to expect.
So when I first started watching I was instantly hooked after the first few episodes. The way how show has a good sense of balance between those hard heavy episode, and how it slowly brings in the characters. Where we first se Spike and Jet, and then starts to slowly bring in the other main characters Ein, Faye, and Ed. As the episodes progress we get to see their backstory. When I saw the first episode it showed a little bit of his backstory when he was a member of the Crime Syndicate the Red Dragons, which is actually one of the main plots of the show, and what happens with Julia, and with. Vicious. But it also shows us what happens with Jet and his arm, and why he left the police force. What happens with Faye, because when I first saw Faye. She was ki, but nd of a bit like Tsunade from Naruto (due to her always gambling and having a lot of debt). But later on we see more about her character and why she has all these debts and why she gambles. The only two characters that we didn't see any background was for Ed and Ein. Now we did see a bit of character background around the last few episodes of the series, but even though those two characters didn't have the most background depth as Spike, Jet, and Faye, but they were fun characters that you just love.
Now the way they handled the story is pretty much the reason why I love series like Fringe, X-Files, Grimm, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, The Blacklist, Agents of Shield, etc. Because if we had those hard heavy episode all the time the series would have been much shorter. That's why we have those episodes, but we have those Bounty of the week episodes, and you have those that are just silly, or just bizarre. Which I'm glad that there were those filler episodes, which is one of the reasons why I love the 90's dub for Sailor Moon.
Now I loved the little throwbacks here and there in the episodes, but I think the one thing that was great in the series was the music. It was just beautiful, which by the way is one my favorite anime soundtracks.
